You can browse and listen to media with music, audiobook, and podcast apps for your car.

To use media apps in your car, you can download compatible apps from the Google Play store built into your car.

Listen to media

Listen to media by voice

You can ask Gemini or Google Assistant to play music or the radio while you drive.

Note: Some features only work if you have Gemini Apps Activity turned on.

  1. Say “Hey Google” or tap the microphone Voice search or spark .
  2. Say what you’d like to do.


You can speak naturally and be understood when you talk to Gemini built into your car. Gemini can help you discover something new and pick what to listen to based on your mood or preferred music genre.

Try these example prompts:

  • It just started raining. Can you play something perfect for a rainy drive?
  • Play music that makes me think of summer.
  • Find an upbeat playlist I can listen to while I drive to work.


You can also use regular voice commands with Gemini or Google Assistant:

  • "Play my [playlist name] playlist on Spotify."
  • "Play [song name] on Amazon Music."
  • "Play house music on Pandora."
  • "Play [artist] on YouTube Music."
  • "Play [podcast name]."

Listen to media with the car screen

  1. On your screen, tap the app launcher Apps.
  2. Select an app and choose what you’d like to play.

Use audio controls by voice

You can talk to Gemini or Google Assistant to control what’s playing. You can say things like:

  • “Pause the music.”
  • “Skip.”
  • “Set the volume to level 5.”

Stream media in your car with Bluetooth

When you pair your phone with your car via Bluetooth, you can use your phone to stream media through your car’s speakers.
Important: When you use Bluetooth to stream media from your phone, some media apps may be unavailable on the car screen.
  1. Pair your phone with your car via Bluetooth. To learn how, check your owner's manual. 
  2. On your car screen, tap the app launcher Apps and then Bluetooth Audio Bluetooth Audio .
  3. Under your phone’s name, tap Bluetooth Player Bluetooth Player .
  4. Select your media source.
