Get started

Make a call by voice

  1. Say “Hey Google” or tap the microphone Voice search or spark .
  2. Say what you’d like to do.

You can speak naturally and be understood when you talk to Gemini built into your car. You can ask Gemini to call someone from your contacts, a specific number, or a number mentioned by Gemini in conversation.

Try these example prompts:

  • “I need to talk to [contact name]. Can you call them?”
  • “Call [contact first name]’s [mobile, home, work] number.”
  • “Can you give [contact name] a call?”
  • “Can you call [phone number]?”

You can also use regular voice commands with Gemini or Google Assistant:

  • “Call [contact name].”
  • “Call home.”
  • “Call [phone number].”
Tip: If you are unable to make a call with a name, your Contact upload permissions may be turned off.  You can find the permissions under Settings  in Gemini or Google Assistant.

Make a call with the display

Follow these steps to make a call with your car display:

  1. On your car display, open the Phone app .
  2. Choose from the options, such as Favorites , Recents, and Contacts .
  3. Tap the contact you want to call and then Tap their phone number.

To end the call, tap End call .

Receive a call

When you receive a call, a notification will appear on your car’s display with the caller's information. Tap the notification to accept the call and start the conversation. In some cars, you may also be able to accept a call with a button on your steering wheel. Check your car manual for instructions.

Use call waiting

If you're already on a call and receive a new one, you can select the notification for the new call to place your current call on hold. Once you have one call on hold, you can go back and forth between calls until one or both of them are done.

You can only use call waiting for incoming calls. You won't be able to dial a second number once you're already on a phone call.

Add favorite contacts

Important: Favorites aren’t synced from your phone.
  1. On your car screen, open the Phone app .
  2. Tap Favorites and then Add a favorite.
  3. Select a contact and tap Favorite .
